At Angels Academy, we know that play is not just a break from learning — it is learning. In the early years, children make sense of the world through hands-on experiences, imagination, and active engagement. That’s why we embrace a play-based learning approach rooted in the South African National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and ELDAs.
What is Play-Based Learning?
Play-based learning is where children explore, experiment, create, and discover in an environment guided by their interests — with support from skilled teachers who introduce intentional learning opportunities.
Through play, children naturally develop:
- Language and communication skills (through storytelling, role-play, and conversations)
- Early math and science concepts (by sorting, building, pouring, and measuring)
- Emotional intelligence and social skills (by sharing, taking turns, and problem-solving)
- Physical development (through running, jumping, balancing, and fine motor tasks)
The Learning is in the Doing
Whether they’re dressing up as doctors, building a zoo from blocks, or squishing playdough, children are learning about real-world roles, cause and effect, and how to express their feelings. Our teachers gently guide play to extend thinking, introduce new vocabulary, and support cooperation and creativity. At Angels Academy, we proudly say: “We learn by doing.”
